New precise Global Positioning System measurements conducted on the 17-18th September have proven that Mont Blanc numbers 4810.9 metres. Mount-Blanc is veiled by a dense ice-cap which has increased by 2.4 meters in precisely 2 yrs but more suprisingly the mass of the snow and ice has almost grown twofold . The volume of ice was measured for the inaugural time in 2001. It was calculated at 14300 metres cubed above 4790 metres. It amounted to merely 13600 cubic metres in 2005 possibly ascribable to the high temperatures with plus temp as high as 4950 metres height. However the icecap has almost doubled up since then and today equals 25000 cubic metres.
